Grenada: I did absolutely nothing and I will do it again

We all know people who have a destination that they frequent often. Simply because they love those places that much. As a person who wants to see every country in the world, the idea of seeing the exact location consistently seemed boring to me. It's so much to explore and people wanna go to the same place and do the same thing. Like I said BORING, at least to me. I like to spice it up sometimes. Each country offers something different.
But boy, let me tell you, I went to Grenada in June and it's officially my annual trip destination. I have stayed at Royalton resorts two times before this trip: once for my cousin's wedding in the DR, and again in Antigua for a group trip with CDE. And because those were specifically curated for a large party, going to an All-Inclusive made sense. One thing I learned is, traveling with people who have opinions and no suggestions on anything, ain't fun. Going to an All-Inclusive resort alleviates that. What originally was supposed to be a trip for 6 ended up being a trip with only 2 people on it. Life became real, real in the Spring so people had to pull out. Understandably, we wrote a rain check and we will try again in 2023. Since the trip ended up being just the 2 of us "activities" weren't a priority, it's sometimes easier for 2 people to find something more than for a large group. I just wanted to enjoy the Juneteenth weekend and relax. And I did just that.
Grenada is not an easy country to get to from Texas. I had to fly from Dallas to Florida and from Florida to Grenada. A slight inconvenience, but nothing to be extremely mad about. Once we arrived, we went through the normal customs procedures and went outside to catch a taxi to the resort. Y'all we really could have walked. It was literally around the corner from the airport. But hindsight is 20/20. After trying to track down some cash for the taxi, we got in our taxi and headed to the resort to check-in.
Unless you are a Diamond Club member, be prepared to walk up some steps. Once we made it to our luxury guest room, we showered and proceeded to find food. This is why being at an all-inclusive resort works well for pairs. The food and drinks are paid for, but of course, there is a limit to what is included. However, that meant nothing to me because what was included was enough. The resort had an Italian restaurant (Grazie), a French restaurant (Ma Maison), an Indian restaurant (Taj) a buffet (Gourmet Marche), a Gelato shop/Caffe Lounge (Scoops), and various little bars all around the beach. I did not go hungry. I ate at every restaurant, multiple items at that. It was included. Why not? Overall, the resort's food was surprisingly good. I expected the food local to Grenada to be delicious, but I didn't have the highest hopes for the resort.
Now the drinks and the bar staff need their own mention. They are truly the reason I would come back. Across the resort, at every bar, we asked them to "Make us what y'all drink when you aren't here at work." The best thing we could have done. We honestly spent the bulk of our trip sitting at the lobby bar kicking it with the staff. They got us so drunk one night, I participated in karaoke multiples. I had to help some girls sing Umbrella. How do you not know the tempo or Jay Z part? A disgrace. If you are ever at the Royalton Grenada and you see any of these people behind the bar: Philemon, Debra, Sabrina, Tevon, Jenny Anne, Ronichelle, Ninja, Tony, or Javel, just know you are in great company.
The only activity we did was go on a clear-bottom kayak tour with the tour guides over at Cayaks Grenada. The tour was $130 per person., and it included a tour of the reef and a drone photo shoot. The overall tour was about 3 hours. But outside of this tour and going to get Souvenirs, we spent the most time just talking to the staff at the resort and relaxing. I had never taken a trip like this before, but I am sold. The beach was beautiful, the staff was more than friendly to us, and our taxi driver Moody was well informed about the island. He was telling us all the local information down to who they should vote for in the election that was coming up. For some reason, every time we called a taxi Moody was the driver, even though there were like 10 taxi drivers on standby at the resort.
Overall, I must say. My initial trip to Grenada was wonderful. I wanted to come back for Carnival, but the flights were crazy. There are so many tours and things I did not do, but honestly, this wasn't the trip for it. I will do those activities when I come back. Based on our conversations with the residents of Grenada, there is not much in terms of nightlife. The island has maybe 2/3 venues that are "club" like. However, I don't care about that as much. I came to relax, and I did just that. If you are looking for a relaxing trip, Grenada might just be the hidden gem island for you.
I have to see the underwater sculpture park, where they harvest some of the spices and a few other things. Overall Grenada: The Isle of Spice has made a believer out of me. I will be back in 2023.
